I heard about Sankofa International after returning from a trip to Ghana which changed my life. The connection seemed to be destiny -- that is the only word I can use to describe it. Since meeting Richard through his cousin who is my co-worker, I have a brand new perspective on what giving back from the heart truly means. Sankofa's story is one to be admired. It is the story that anyone who has a heart should hear. It is the story of why we were all put on this earth - to give back to those who are less fortunate. I have seen the work that Sankofa does through videos and photos and I am itching to work with them because I too, want to give back to Africa's needy. I have observed Richard when he is speaking passionately about how his first trip to Ghana changed his life and I can relate. I consider myself a pan-African, and KNEW for sure that I came from Ghana when I visited in July 2011 and walked through the dungeons and on ancestral grounds.

Like Sankofa, one of my life's mission is to continue to give back to Africa's needy and since Sankofa has laid the foundation already, and is an organization that is truly doing the work through altrusim, it is only fitting that I work with them. I am very excited about what lies ahead with this collaboration.

In the world of work, they say attitude determines your altitude and if this is true then Yaa Gyasi Peppy Parke (Rosie Parke) may as well have coined the saying herself. As her nickname suggests - Ms. Peppy, as she is known on the entertainment and promotions circuit -- has the positive attitude and incredible energy to connect people and foster community building wherever she goes. She is passionate, energetic, and persistent and is the epitome of PEP.

A native of Jamaica, Ms. Parke has been living in the DC area since January 2003 and holds a Masters degree in Management with specialization in Public Relations and an Undergraduate degree in Business and Professional Management. She is the founder and creative director of Peppy Entertainment & Promotions - a company specializing in public relations, event planning and management, artist representation and fitness and wellness; the creator, producer and host of PEP Talk TV and Radio; the cultural communications ambassador of the Universal Negro Improvement Association - African Communities League (UNIA-ACL); the director of public affairs at East River Family Strengthening Collaborative, Inc.; a fitness & wellness enthusiast and instructor; and so much more.
